Early voting starts Monday for Texas
Early voting starts Monday for El Paso and the rest of Texas for the general election. And there are more reasons this year why you should consider casting your ballot before Election Day.
“Things are very busy,” said El Paso County Elections Administrator Lisa Wise. “We’re doing training. We just finished early voting training last week.”
Wise and the rest of the staff with the elections department have a lot of work ahead of them in an election that has a lot of people interested.
“So we did our registration celebration, same as last year, but we expanded on it,” Wise said. “And last year we did between 6-700 registrations. This time we did about 2,500.”
And with record registrations across the state, officials like wise are encouraging early voting, both to avoid the possible long lines and for the convenience. Unlike Election Day, you can vote at any early voting location.
“We just kind of wait and see if those – if that registration turns into actual turnout,” Wise said.
Just remember – if you’re having problems while voting, ask for help before you cast the ballot.
“We always have people on election day who say, you know ‘I had an issue.’ And you say ‘Well, is your card still in there?’ And they say ‘No, I cast the ballot.’ And there’s nothing at that point that we can do,” Wise said. “Just like in a ballot box if you have paper, you cannot break that seal.”
