TxDOT reassures Buena Vista residents Go10 project on schedule
Homeowners in the Buena Vista neighborhood off I-10 East near Sunland Park tell ABC-7 they are not worried about property damage of traffic noise.
ABC-7 noticed distributor lanes under construction will be very close to a few properties in the neighborhood.
Buena Vista residents, some of who have lived there more than forty years, said they are more concerned about the project not wrapping up on time.
“I’m used to the noise now, but my concern is when are they going to finish (construction) all that noise ..all that dust,” said Buena Vista resident Luis Jimenez.
The Texas Department of Transportation told ABC-7 Tuesday the GO-10 highway project is on schedule. It is meant to improve traffic flow, vehicle capacity and safety along the I-10 corridor between North Mesa Street and Executive Center Boulevard.
TXDOT Spokeswoman Jennifer Wright told ABC-7 the state agency has reached out to residents of the Buena Vista neighborhood and listened to their concerns.
“They shouldn’t experience additional noise because the quantity of traffic isn’t changing, all we are doing is adding additional lanes so the traffic will be spread out among more lanes,” Wright said.
The $158 million project began in April 2015 and is expected to be completed in 2019.
