4 held in deadly Conroe jewelry store attempted robbery

Officials say a fourth man has been arrested in a Houston-area jewelry store robbery attempt that left another suspect dead during a shootout with workers.

Montgomery County jail records show 20-year-old Santo Stephens was being held Wednesday on an aggravated robbery charge.

Bond was $150,000 for Stephens, who was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for the Oct. 3 attempted holdup at Jeff’s Jewelry in Conroe.

Police say several armed men entered the store, tried to break display cases and also attempted to rob customers.

Some employees opened fire. One suspect was killed at the scene. No customers or employees were hurt.

Conroe police say three suspects were arrested the following week.

Jail records don’t list an attorney to speak on behalf of Stephens.
