UPDATE: Fire destroys two buildings, damage estimated at $400K
A fire that erupted on the 100 block of San Marcial destroyed two buildings, resulting in estimated damage of $400,000, fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 3:54 a.m. Crews arriving at the scene found two buildings fully engulfed in flames, one at the 100 block of N. Piedras St., and the other at the 2900 block of Rosa Ave.
Fire officials say the buildings were empty, but three neighboring homes were evacuated; the residents were sheltered in a Sun Metro bus.
The fire was under control at 7:50 a.m. and no injuries were reported. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.
