Postal Service investigating theft of mail in Las Cruces neighborhoods
The U.S. Postal Service is investigating the theft of mail at a cluster of mail boxes in Las Cruces.
The theft was reported at mail boxes on the 2700 block of Lookout Ridge, 1900 block of Desert Greens, and the 1600 block of South Telshor Blvd.
Police told ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom it is the time of year when people are both receiving and sending gift cards, cash, and checks.
Police are reminding the public it is not a good idea to mail these items. They suggest you take these items to the post office or hand deliver them to a postal carrier.
“As far as receiving cash or a gift card, there’s not much you can do about it except ask those who are sending you gifts not to send cash or gift cards through the mail,” LCPD Spokesman Dan Trujillo said.
Cluster boxes are supposed to be more secure. “Anyone with time and the will find a way to break in,” Trujillo added.
LCPD also says people should avoid mailing payments over the mail. They suggest you pay on line or go directly to the source to make payments.
