Police still investigating road rage shooting

Las Cruces Police are still investigating a road rage shooting that left one man in critical condition.

Police said the shooting happened around 5:30 Thursday evening on Rinconada Boulevard and Settlers Pass.

Witnesses told police a pickup and another vehicle were driving aggressively in the East Mesa. Investigators say one of the men involved pulled out a handgun and fired at least one round, hitting a 30-year-old man in the abdomen.

The man was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso and is in critical condition.

At this time, police say they’ve identified all parties involved, though they have not released any of those names.

Thursday, police were still looking for the second car involved in that shooting. Earlier in the evening, a witness told ABC-7 the victim was shot inside of a truck. Another witness said there had been talk of an altercation before the shooting. A neighbor told ABC-7 his friend also witnessed the shooting.

“There were some people, someone pulled out a gun.” He added, “they were throwing rocks, someone took off a couple of shots before someone drove off. That’s all I know but it can’t be good. I’m just glad there was such a quick response from the Las Cruces Police Department,” Herber Parks said.

Police temporarily blocked traffic in and out of the Rinconada subdivision along Rinconada Boulevard, and between Roma Drive and Settlers Pass. The roads are now open.

Police are still conducting interviews with witnesses. If you know anything, or have information on the suspect, you are asked to call Las Cruces Police. at (575) 526-0795.
