CBP Officers arrest alleged human smuggler

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at an El Paso port of entry arrested a truck driver after they allegedly discovering a person hiding in the truck he was driving.

The arrest was made just before noon Tuesday when a 2010 Freightliner truck entered the Bridge of the Americas cargo facility.

A CBP officer selected the vehicle for an x-ray exam and a scan allegedly revealed an anomaly in the appearance of the sleeper cabin.

CBP officers searched the vehicle and allegedly discovered a female hiding in the sleeper. The woman is a Mexican national who did not possess appropriate entry documents.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested by a CBP enforcement officer and booked into the El Paso County Jail.

The driver, a 45-year-old Mexican national, is facing smuggling charges. The 45-year-old woman is facing illegal entry charges.
