El Paso’s Best Ambassador?

If you fly Southwest in and out of El Paso, chances are you’ve run into David Vasquez.

He’s a gate agent who works the early morning flights, and he’s been working at the airport for 33 years.

Vasquez was pointed out to ABC-7 because of his cheerful and friendly demeanor, and his co-worker Elizabeth Gonzalez seems to agree with that. “He’s just genuinely nice”, adding that “everything with Dave is no problem.”

His co-workers affectionately refer to him as number one, partly because he’s been there the longest, and partly because he really is number one. “I just treat people how I want to be treated”, Vasquez said.

“He’s cool, calm, sweet, kind, and wonderful,” Gonzalez added.

That attitude hopefully makes the holiday travel a little less stressful for those at the El Paso Airport.

ABC-7 Managing Editor Eric Huseby affectionately calls him El Paso’s best ambassador because of his positive attitude and the fact that he’s one of the first people you run into when you’re flying into the Sun City.

Even with all the attention, Vasquez remains humble. “It’s an easy job, what I do is easy, it’s low stress.”
