Police arrest suspect in Christmas Day arson

Police arrested a man allegedly involved in a fire at the San Jose Apartment complex Christmas Day, fire department officials said.

Sergio Misael Morales Mondaca, 25, who lives in the area where the fire occurred, was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Jail on Sunday, fire officials added.

The fire at the complex on the 8400 block of San Jose is tied to a police investigation, officials said.

Morales Mondaca was charged with “Arson of a Habitation,” a first degree felony, fire officials added.

Jail records show Morales Mondaca was also charged with “Aggravated Assault of a Deadly Weapon.” His bonds total $65,000.

On October 15, 2016, Morales Mondaca was charged with “Assault Causing Bodily Injury of a Family Member.”
