El Paso soldier stationed at Fort Hood dies New Year’s Day

An El Paso soldier stationed at Fort Hood died New Year’s Day as a result of complications from an illness.

Pfc. Kai Yemale Yancey, 26, was undergoing treatment at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas.

Yancey entered active-duty military service in February 2015 as a motor transport operator, Fort Hood officials said.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, since 2016.

Yancey’s awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
