UPDATE: Police identify man shot and killed in Las Cruces; no arrest yet

Police identified the man shot and killed in Las Cruces Tuesday as 29-year-old Christopher Mendoza.

Mendoza was unresponsive when police officers arrived at the residence at 1404 Wyoming Avenue at about 7:30 pm January 31, 2017.

Paramedics transported Mendoza to Mountainview Regional Medical Center where, shortly after arrival, he was pronounced dead.

Investigators have identified a 26-year-old suspected shooter, who is reportedly “in contact with police and no outstanding threat to the community,” police said.

Police have not said why the suspect has yet to be charged.

Another 21-year-old man shot was transported to University Medical Center of El Paso, but his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
