NMSU Coach Paul Weir ready for tough test against CSU Bakersfield
It’s not by luck the NMSU Aggies have the second longest winning-streak in the nation at 20 straight victories. But that streak may be in jeopardy as the Aggies will face CSU Bakersfield (15-7) Thursday night on the road.
New Mexico State defeated the Roadrunners in their first meeting back in January by only 5 points, and actually found themselves in a deficit a large portion of that game.
Head Coach Paul Weir knows this time around, his squad will have to control the tempo of the game if they want any chance at extending that winning-streak.
“They’re a unique from the standpoint of slowly the game down and literally holding the ball at times,” Weir said. “So we’ve got to find a way to dictate the tempo of the game and make some adjustments for this one.”
It may be hard to believe with all of the recent success, but Coach Weir doesn’t focus on the wins or losses and instead takes the season one day and opponent at a time.
“We’ve never really talked about winning and losing, it’s just really about being the best team we can be,” Weir said. “So we just prepare for the next game, do our jobs, show up work hard and hope the winning and scores take care of themselves. I can tell you I have been just as mad after a win as I have been as happy after a loss, we don’t define it that way.”
Regardless of the philosophy, the Aggies must bring their best effort Thursday night as they will face a team that sits second in the conference (6-1) and hungry to dethrone one of the hottest teams in the entire country.
Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
