Jennifer Han preps for third straight world title fight

As the saying goes, a third time’s the charm, and that is what El Pasoan Jennifer Han is aiming to do Friday night. Han will face Olivia Gerula to defend her IBF Women’s World Featherweight Championship for a third straight time at the Don Haskins Center.

Gerula isn’t new to the spotlight though as she is the former World Champion (18-16-2, Winnepeg, Canada), the former WBC World Super Featherweight Champion and will be fighting her 8th world title fight.

But that doesn’t intimidate Han in the least.

“When you’re the champion, you know that everyone is coming with their best shot and make the most of their opportunity to be a champion,” Han said. “For most, it can be a once in a lifetime opportunity. But my opponent here, Olivia Gerula, she’s a former World Featherweight Champion and knows what it’s like to be at the top. She’s hungry to get her title back, but I believe I’m hungrier to keep the one that belongs not just me, but the fans of El Paso.”

While Gerula on the other hand, believes this is her moment to retain the world title belt.

“I know I am stepping into her territory, she’s a national treasure here and everybody is proud of her,” Gerula said. “That being said I have gone to many cities and made lots of upsets before and I intend to do that on Friday night as well.”

The main fight between Han and Gerula is expected to start between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

While the #3 World Ranked Felix, 35-1-3, of Los Mochos, Mexico, will battle Peru’s Jonathon Maicelo, 24-2, in a Special Attraction 10-Round Lightweight bout.

Doors open at 6 pm, while the first fight will start at 7 p.m.
