Go Fund Me account set up for family of Leilanii Alvarado

A man unloading debris at a dumpster in the 5200 block of Viceroy in Northeast ran over his two-year-old daughter, police said.

The girl suffered a serious head injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

It happened shortly before 6pm Wednesday.

Police said the girl, Leilanii Alvarado, exited a nearby residence and walked towards her father’s pickup. Sergio Alvarado, 22, was unaware the girl had approached his vehicle as he was backing up, police said.

“I was cooking when I heard a child screaming and after that I hear a man, yelling and screaming and asking for help,” neighbor Martha Nesmith said, “When I walked over there, it was terrible screaming. Very bad. He looked at me and asked me to please call the ambulance.”

Nesmith said she ran back to her apartment to call 911, and when she went back outside, the man was driving his daughter to the hospital in his pickup.

“I feel so so bad. Honest to God. She’s just a little angel and now she’s with God,” Nesmith said, “I hope, we as parents, learn a lesson, you know, and be more careful.”

Police said the investigation continues and no charges have been filed.
