LCPD: Murder suspect struck victim with shovel, slashed neck with bottle

Police arrested a man in connection with a homicide investigation at a home on the 600 block of South Manzanita Street in Las Cruces.

Taylor James Enriguez, 19, is charged with an open count of Murder, Battery and False Imprisonment, police said.

Police were dispatched to the residence at 623 Manzanita at about 8 pm Sunday. Upon arriving, officers found Alberto Nunez-Lopez, of 23-year-old man from Mesquite, suffering from lacerations to his neck and head.

Detectives learned Enriquez and Nunez-Lopez both lived at the home. The men reportedly got into an argument that escalated into a violent confrontation, police said.

Enriquez allegedly used a shovel to strike Nunez-Lopez and a bottle to “strike Nunez-Lopez’s neck,” police said.

Investigators say a 61-year-old man who also lives at the home was also attacked by Enriquez.

Other residents arrived at the home and noticed the lifeless Nunez-Lopez. Police said the residents physically restrained Enriquez until police arrived.

Enriquez is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center without bond.
