Burges defeats Eastern Hills, advances to Elite 8 in Texas basketball playoffs

Burges High School (El Paso) defeated Eastern Hills (Fort Worth) in the sweet 16 of the Texas High School Basketball playoffs with a final score of 78-66.

Thanks to Jawaun and Tristan Newton’s 29 points each, the Mustangs advanced to the Elite 8; a place they could not reach last season. The Mustangs were in control from the tip as they took the lead from the start, went into the half with an 11 point margin and held off the Eastern Hills late rally to advance.

Burges will play Justin Northwest (Fort Worth), who defeated Andress High School in overtime 62-58.
