More than a million in meth seized at Sierra Blanca checkpoint
Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexican woman allegedly trying to smuggle “a large load of methamphetamine” worth more than a million dollars.
The arrest and seizure were made Wednesday March 5, 2017 at the Sierra Blanca Checkpoint on I-10 East, about 85 miles east of El Paso.
Following an initial immigration inspection, agents referred the woman to secondary inspection for an x-ray scan of the vehicle.
The scan allegedly revealed packages concealed within the vehicle. A drug-sniffing dog then alerted officers to more than 20 brick-like packages hidden throughout the vehicle, officials said.
Customs and Border Protection officials further stated the bricks contained more than 31 pounds of methamphetamine, with a street value of more than $1,017,000.
Officials did not identify the female driver. She was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration in El Paso for further investigation.
