Jury finds Dudley guilty of killing wife

A jury has found Greg Dudley guilty of murdering his wife.

It took the jury of six men and six women no more than two hours to reach the verdict.

Dudley, who showed no emotion when the verdict was announced, faces up to 99 years or life in prison for the killing 38-year-old Deanna Stewart back in April 2015.

The sentencing phase is underway. During victim impact statements, Stewart’s sister told Dudley the victim was “her best friend. I looked up to her.”

Dudley allegedly killed Stewart inside their home on Jerry Lewis Street in East El Paso. Stewart’s body was discovered by her daughter, Adriana Medina. In court Wednesday, Medina told ABC-7, “I can’t really sleep some nights. I just always go back to what I saw.”

Court records obtained by ABC-7 state the couple had a history of domestic violence.

During closing arguments, the state set the tone by asking the jury to concentrate on three things: the physical evidence, Dudley and Stewart’s relationship, and Dudley’s behavior the weekend after the murder.

Testimony revealed Dudley had gun powder residue on his clothing and owned the murder weapon.

Witnesses, including Medina, testified the couple often fought. When Medina showed up at the house on the day police believe Stewart was murdered, Dudley wouldn’t let Medina inside.

The defense accused detectives of having tunnel vision, stating police rushed to judgment in blaming Dudley. It also tried to cast reasonable doubt by bringing in other possible suspects and theories. Among them, the “suspicious driver” of a vehicle spotted at the scene by a neighbor.
