UTEP basketball completes Class of 2017 with addition of Joey St. Pierre
UTEP men’s basketball head coach Tim Floyd announced on Wednesday that Joey St. Pierre, a center from Richmond, Illinois, would be joining UTEP for the 2017-18 season.
St. Pierre is the last signee for the Miners, completing UTEP’s Class of 2017. Coach Floyd reiterated that the team will have a full 13 scholarship players for the upcoming season.
St. Pierre was a star basketball and football player at Richmond-Burton High School, where he averaged 13.7 points per game to go along with 7.6 rebounds in his senior campaign.
However, he only appeared in 14 games and missed most of the second half of his senior year after undergoing kidney surgery.
Still, Floyd believes that St. Pierre could provide some physical interior play for UTEP during his career.
“Joey is a big, physical guy. He reminds us of Cedrick Lang,” Floyd said. “He can rebound and defend and he’s a good athlete. He plays hard. He could be a great screener. He’s a good passer out of the post. He’s going to continue to develop, just like our other bigs have over the years.”
