Community Champion: NMSU’s Moriah Mack signs deal with WNBA team

Former NMSU star Moriah Mack is getting a chance to continue her basketball career in the WNBA.

Mack, who led the team in scoring last season, has signed a training camp deal with the Minnesota Lynx – winners of two of the past four WNBA titles.

Mack is only the second NMSU player to ever ink a deal with a WNBA team, joining Anita Maxwell, who was selected 29th overall in the 1997 WNBA Draft by the Cleveland Rockers.

While getting a chance to make a WNBA roster is exciting, Mack says making the team is going to require her to be as poised and focused as ever.

“There’s definitely a lot of nervousness,” said Mack. I’m gonna try to fight that as much as possible. I’m gonna try to stay composed as much as I can.”

Mack led the Aggies to a 24-7 record in her senior campaign as well as the WAC regular season and tournament titles. She also surpassed 1,000 career points in February.

But her basketball journey is really just beginning.

“I mean, it means everything,” she said. “As an athlete, that’s your goal and that’s your dream – to play professionally in your country. So, to have this opportunity is just amazing. It’s a blessing.”
