El Pasoan makes Time’s 100 most influential people list for 2017

Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor made Time magazine’s list of the top 100 most influential people in the world for 2017.

O’Connor became a justice in September 1981 and retired in 2006.

O’Connor was born in El Paso and graduated from Austin High School in 1946. Austin named its criminal justice magnet program after O’Connor.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote the tribute to her in Time magazine, describing O’Connor as an American pioneer.

Sotomayor said O’Connor “secured a central role on the court by blending determination with a politician’s skill at bringing people together.”
