Former UTEP running back Aaron Jones drafted by Green Bay Packers
Aaron Jones will now be playing on Sundays.
The former UTEP running back was drafted by the Green Bay Packers with the 182nd pick in the 5th round.
Jones rushed for a school-record 1,773 yards last season for the Miners, averaging a whopping 7.3 yards per carry.
The former UTEP star ran a 4.56 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine to go along with a 37.5 inch vertical jump.
“To Miner fans I want to say thank you for all your support, supporting me since I was a freshman and still supporting me now,” said Jones. “The continued support that you all have given me has meant a lot. Thank you for everything. I love the city of El Paso.”
Aaron’s brother, Alvin Jones, a linebacker at UTEP, said the thing he’s probably most excited about is being able to play as Aaron Jones on the upcoming edition of the Madden video game.
“Knowing he’s gonna be someone you play with on Madden, and you’ve been playing Madden for 10-15 years. Now, you can play with him. It’s gonna be crazy,” said Alvin Jones.
The Jones family hosted a gather for friends, media, and former teammates Saturday afternoon.
Jones could be seen wearing a hat that read “Dream Big” until his name was called. Then, his father handed him a Green Bay Packers hat.
Despite being a 5th-round NFL draftee, Aaron Jones still believes he should have gone higher.
“I think I was better than some of the guys that were chosen [ahead of me],” said Jones. “But God put me in the spot where I’m supposed to be. I was getting a little antsy, a little frustrated. But like i said, God put me in the spot where I’m supposed to be.”
