Second annual ‘Carry the Load’ walk happening May 19

“Carry the Load” is a non-profit walk is meant to provide meaningful ways to honor the sacrifices made by military, law enforcement, firefighters and first responders.

Volunteers who participate carry heavy backpacks and American flags as a physical reminder of memorial day’s true meaning. Participants will walk 11 miles broken off in different relays.

The walk is taking place at 10 a.m. May 19, starting at the El Paso Police Department located at 911 N. Raynor Street. The route will go for four miles and continue to the Old Iron Side Memorial located 1735 Marshall Rd. at Fort Bliss, where it will continue for five miles to Kmart located at 6375 Montana Avenue. The walk will then finish at 9701 Montana Avenue.

The walk is free, and participants can register the day of the event. Those walking that do not have a military ID must have a valid state-issued ID. Parking will be available at the starting and stopping point of each relay. Water and some snacks will be provided during the relay.
