NMSU to hire Brooke Atkinson as new women’s basketball head coach

Brooke Atkinson will be named the new head coach of the NMSU women’s basketball team, according to the web site Swish Appeal.

Atkinson was a former assistant at NMSU from 2003 to 2010 who then went on to be an assistant at Colorado State.

She will replace three-time reigning WAC Coach of the Year Mark Trakh, who guided the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament each of the past three seasons.

Trakh recently accepted the head coaching position with USC’s women’s basketball team, where he previously coached for five seasons.

Atkinson helped lead Colorado State to a 25-win campaign last year.
