UPDATE: Off-duty border agent stabbed in East El Paso
An off-duty Border Patrol was hospitalized with serious injuries after being stabbed early Saturday morning.
Officers with the Crimes Against Persons unit responded about 2 a.m. to a Valero gas station on the 2300 block of Zaragoza Road. Investigators blocked off the area with red crime tape.
“It was a very large crime scene and it happened on a wide span”, said police spokesman Sgt. Robert Gomez.
Police arrived to a gruesome crime scene.
“He does have a stab wound to his head or his eye area,” Gomez said.
Police said some people in the area began chasing a suspect down Tierra Este and held him until police got to the scene.
An El Paso police spokesman said Saturday afternoon the victim is a 31-year-old Border Patrol agent and is in serious condition at Del Sol Medical Center.
After a 15 hour investigation red tape still hung across the parking lot of the gas station.
As police wrapped up the investigation border patrol agents were on the scene taking pictures and talking to people in the area.
While police cleaned up the bloody crime scene, Gomez said they still don’t know how the altercation started.
“The intitial cause we’re not ready to comment on that right now because we are still interviewing witnesses and trying to develop how this incident occurred,” Gomez said.
Police confirmed the suspect will be charged with attempted murder.
