Homeless man struck in the eye by bullet fragment after confrontation at gas station

A homeless man going through trash bins at Bowlin’s Gas Station near I-10 was struck in the eye by “bullet fragments” after getting into a verbal confrontation with two men, New Mexico State Police said.

The shooting happened on Tuesday May 23, 2017 around 7:28 p.m. Police said one of the men fired a round at the victim as they drove away. The victim was found lying on the side of I-10 West at mile post 63, police said.

The victim was transported to University of New Mexico Medical Center in Albuquerque with non-life threatening injuries.
