Las Cruces man accused of touching girl inappropriately

Benjamin Saminego Chavira is charged with one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor, according to court records.

Chavira, of Mesilla Park, was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center Tuesday.

Court documents obtained by ABC-7 state Chavira inappropriately touched an 11-year-old girl while at a home on the 1800 block of S. Locust.

In an interview with investigators, the girl alleged Chavira knelt down next to her while she was laying down and touched her inappropriately. According to documents, a young boy was also in the room and witnessed the alleged act.

Documents say Chavira at first told detectives that he accidentally touched the girl’s buttocks. Documents state he then admitted that he laid down next to the 11-year-old. Documents say he confirmed that what he did was inappropriate.

Chavira is being held on a $10,000 secured bond.
