Chapin softball eliminated by Canyon in game two of Elite 8 matchup
A magical season for the Chapin Huskies softball team has come to an end in the Elite 8 after Canyon topped Chapin in game two of their series by a final of 13-2.
The Huskies fell behind 5-0 in the first inning after a pair of Canyon home runs and a costly throwing error.
They were able to get one run back in the bottom of the first and later scored a second run on an Alyssa Lozoya solo home run, but Canyon’s bats were too tough in game two.
Sloane Precure of Canyon put the Eagles up 7-1 in the second with another home run and then later added a two-run double to put her team up 9-1. The Eagles eventually took a 12-1 lead, putting the game out of reach.
Canyon’s big offensive performance followed up the team’s 5-1 win in game one on Thursday.
This year’s Chapin team advanced further than any other had in program history. They were also regular season district champions.
In addition, the Huskies advanced further than any other El Paso-area softball team.
Canyon is now the Region I champion and advanced to the state Final Four with the victory.
