Sunland Park man accused of sexually assaulting girl

A grand jury has indicted a Sunland Park man on 11 felony counts in connection to inappropriate sexual contact with an 11-year-old girl, Doña Ana County District Attorney Mark D’Antonio announced Friday.

Jaime Carrillo, 53, is accused of sexually assaulting the girl numerous times over the course of several months.

The grand jury indicted Carrillo on one count of Kidnapping and two counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration of a Minor.

Carrillo was also charged with seven counts of second-degree Criminal Sexual Contact with a Child Under 13 and one count of “Child Abuse not Resulting in Great Bodily Harm or Death.”

Police began investigating Carrillo after the girl told her school counselor about the alleged abuse and sexual assaults. The counselor called police.

Investigators allege Carrillo forced the girl to have sex with him on several occasions between Thanksgiving 2016 and April 2017.

Police arrested Carrillo, who denied the allegations, on May 12 and booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $50,000 secured bond.

If convicted on all counts, Carrillo faces a maximum sentence of 162 years behind bars.
