SWAT situation unfolds in Northeast El Paso

A SWAT standoff that closed off several streets in Northeast El Paso Thursday night has come to an end.

Police said shortly after 9 p.m., a 38-year-old man entered a tattoo parlor at 5600 Dyer St. and threatened people inside with a BB gun.

Officers said they originally thought the suspect had handgun.

EPPD’s Sgt. Robert Gomez said people inside the business were able to leave safely, but the man refused to leave.

Police said that around 11:30 p.m., the suspect came out on his own and he was taken into custody.

No one was hurt. Police said they do not think the man’s motive was robbery, but the investigation continues.

Gomez said the man had a warrant for his arrest from New Mexico for not appearing in court because of a weapons charge.

El Paso Police said the suspect may face more charges.
