Affidavit: Suspect assaulted agent’s wife, later stabbed and killed agent

The Border Patrol agent stabbed in the eye outside a Far East El Paso bar has died, according to El Paso Police.

Police said Hisaias Justo Lopez, 39, stabbed the off-duty agent, 30-year-old Isaac Morales, in the parking lot of the Union Drafthouse Bar on the 12000 block of Tierra Este.

Police originally charged Lopez with Criminal Attempted Murder. The charge was later upgraded to Murder.

The stabbing happened shortly before 2 am on May 20, 2017. Morales suffered life threatening injuries after he was stabbed in the eye, police said.

According a Complaint Affidavit obtained by ABC-7, Morales and his wife were walking to their vehicles when Lopez, whom was also walking to his vehicle parked in the parking lot, approached the couple and displayed a knife.

Morales initially ignored the confrontation until his wife was allegedly struck by the driver side door by Lopez.

Police said Morales identified himself as a Border Patrol Agent, but Lopez continued with the assault.

Morales was able to swing at the direction of Lopez, causing him to stumble, the affidavit states.

Lopez “ran from the scene and was chased by the victim, his friend and other witnesses,” police said, “While being chased, the offender turned and stabbed the victim in the face.”

Morales sustained further injuries to his lower chin and right upper thigh area, according to Affidavit Supplement.
