Customs officers seize marijuana load at Borderland port of entry
U.S Customs and Border Protection officers seized 132 pounds of marijuana Friday morning.
The seizure was made shortly after 8 a.m May 26, 2017 at the Presidio port of entry.
Federal officials said a woman drove into the port of entry in 2004 Nissan X-Terra. The marijuana was allegedly concealed in nine different locations throughout the vehicle.
A CBP officer noticed issues with the driver’s travel itinerary and sent the vehicle for a secondary, more intensive inspection.
X-ray scans and a drug sniffing dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics.
Officers extracted 123 bundles of pot from the car.
“This seizure reminds us a smuggler will use all available places in a vehicle to smuggle narcotics,” said Michael Neipert, CBP Presidio Port Director, “Our officers are trained to do complete inspections in order to discover any and all narcotics possibly concealed within a conveyance.”
CBP officers arrested the driver, a 44-year-old United States citizen, and turned her over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
