Police release arrest photo of man accused of killing Border Patrol agent
The man accused of stabbing and killing a Border Patrol agent will remain jailed while he gets a new attorney.
Tuesday’s bond hearing for Hisaias Justo Lopez, 39, was postponed after Lopez’s court-appointed attorney, Roberto Ramos, withdrew from the case.
Lopez, wearing an orange and white jail jumpsuit, had several bruises, including a red bruise on the right side of his forehead and a black eye.
On May 20, 2017, Lopez and Border Patrol agent Isaac Morales were both walking to their cars after leaving a bar on the 12000 block of Tierra Este in Far East El Paso.
A complaint affidavit states Lopez and Morales argued near their cars. Morales identified himself as a Border Patrol agent, but Lopez still stabbed him several times, police said.
Lopez ran away, but the agent and other witnesses pursued Lopez into the parking of a nearby gas station.
During the pursuit, Lopez turned around and allegedly stabbed agent Morales in the eye.
Morales was transported to Del Sol Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead May 24, 2017.
Lopez is charged with Murder. He will remain jailed pending a new bond hearing and the appointment of a new public defender.
El Paso Police have not released Lopez’s mug shot.
ABC-7 has learned Morales will be laid to rest Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery East.
