New app to help El Paso-Jurez find faster routes, reduce bridge wait times
The City of El Paso has launched a real-time bridge wait time application for commuters in the El Paso-Juárez region.
“For the first time, the City of El Paso is giving commuters who travel between El Paso and Juárez the opportunity to access truly up-to-the-minute bridge wait time information through our new PDNUno.com Web site,” said Matthew McElroy, Director of El Paso’s International Bridges Department. “This innovative program goes even further by making commuters part of the solution; the Web site is powered by the Metropia smartphone application, which gathers real time information from commuters who are crossing the border 24 hours a day.”
City officials say the El Paso-Juárez region’s border crossings are among the most active on the continent. El Paso is leading the effort to address the congestion affecting commerce, travel, and tourism, officials said.
In the near future, the program is expected to help reduce bridge wait times as well as air pollution. In the long term, the City is hoping information acquired through this program will inform long-term policymakers and investors.
As an extra incentive to get commuters to use its app, Metropia’s navigating capability has been expanded to include address-to-address routing to help minimize congestion in El Paso and Juárez, building different routes the user can use within each city with cross-border navigation from Mexico to the U.S leading motorists to the least congested border crossing.
Metropia’s smartphone application also includes separate wait time information for trucks, motor vehicles, and pedestrians.
The bridge’s initiatives are all in part of the City of El Paso’s commitment to enhance El Paso’s regional transportation system.
