Man wanted in connection with homicide deported, entered the US illegally four times
ICE agents deported an undocumented immigrant wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in Mexico.
Salvador Estrada-Zapata, 29, has entered the US illegally four times and has already been convicted of illegal re-entry, ICE officials said.
ICE agents turned Estrada-Zapata over to Mexican authorities at the Stanton International Bridge.
He is wanted in Guanajuato, Mexico, for the fatal stabbing of Sergio Alonso Ramon, found dead inside his home in August 2010. Estrada-Zapata allegedly killed Ramon to rob him, according to a Mexican arrest warrant.
On Sept. 6, 2010, Estrada-Zapata entered the United States illegally through Roma, Texas. He was arrested four days later in Freer, Texas, and was voluntarily returned to Mexico.
On Sept. 14, 2010, Estrada-Zapata again entered the United States illegally through Hidalgo, Texas. The following day, he was arrested in Hebbronville, Texas. He was granted a voluntary return and again returned to Mexico through Laredo.
Just four days later, Estrada-Zapata again illegally entered the United States through Laredo, officials said. He was arrested and was again voluntarily returned to Mexico on Sept. 22, 2010.
On March 2, 2017, Estrada-Zapata again entered the country through Eagle Pass, Texas. He was arrested March 5 in Carrizo Springs, Texas, and served with an expedited removal.
Estrada-Zapata was convicted of illegal entry on March 8, 2017 and sentenced to 120 days in federal prison with credit for time served.
Officials said that depending on criminal history, an undocumented immigrant who illegally reenters the United States after having been previously removed has committed a felony punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison.
