El Paso native designing future home of Texas Rangers

An El Paso native is having a say in the future home of the Texas Rangers baseball team.

Fred Ortiz graduated from Irvin High School in 1985. He’s now an architect with the company designing the ballpark, HKS.

The ballpark will have a retractable roof and ‘Sports Daily’ estimates the cost will be about $1,000,000. In a video, Ortiz explained what he thinks will set the ballpark apart from all the others.

“I think that in many ways context has a lot to do with the look and feel of the ballpark I mean jumping to football, when one looks at AT&T and say, “Oh that’s the Dallas Cowboys, and so we’re looking at that identity that brand of Texas Rangers that will identify with everyone and can make this project easily identifiable no other in major league baseball,” Ortiz said.

The Rangers and the City of Arlington are working to open the new stadium in 2020.
