EPPD officer charged in death of infant child who drowned in bathtub
EDITOR’S NOTE: KVIA incorrectly reported El Paso Police Officer Raymond Licon Jr. had been fired. Police said Licon Jr. was ‘relieved of duty.’ An El Paso Police spokesman told ABC-7 that means Licon Jr. was stripped of his police powers. When asked if Licon Jr. was still employed with the department as a civilian or if he was suspended, the spokesman said that “has yet to be determined.”
Crimes Against Persons detectives have arrested an El Paso Police officer and charged him with Criminal Negligent Homicide for the death of his 11-month-old child.
27-year-old Raymond Licon Jr. was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $10,000 bond.
The officer, a two-year-veteran of the police department assigned to the Central Regional Command, was relieved of duty, police officials said.
On Tuesday, June 20, 2017, police and paramedics responded to 3334 Zion after an 11-month-old infant was found without signs of life.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed the father, Licon Jr, was giving the child a bath in an upstairs bathroom.
The infant was allegedly left alone in the bathtub and when the father returned, he found the child in the water.
Police said the father immediately called 911 began performing CPR. The child was transported to UMC, where he was pronounced dead. Licon Jr. was off duty at the time, police said.
