Community Champions: FC Toros look to represent El Paso
The FC Toros under-13 team will look to shine a light on the soccer talent in El Paso at the Surf Cup in San Diego in August.
Toros will be representing the city against competition from across the nation. And they’re confident they will represent the Borderland well because they’re a close group.
“What makes our team good is the talent and how we all play as if we were a family. We all interact and love each other,” said Marcos Miranda, a defender on the team.
The club will take its neon yellow-green jerseys to California in August to compete against some of the top youth teams in the country.
“I think we can make it and take first place and take the trophy,” said midfielder Leonel Escarcega.
So what’s their secret to success? It’s pretty simple. Hard work.
“We practice a lot. We do a lot of passing drills, and that’s what makes us pretty good,” said goalkeeper Alejandro Zamarripa.
They also happen to have a lot of natural talent as well. But they say nothing can replace their hard work and effort on the practice field.
“We feel we have a great group of kids,” said assistant coach Jose Escarcega. “They’ve been putting in hard work every practice. We feel we have a pretty good team, and we’re going to go represent El Paso.”
