Chihuahuas outfielder Nick Buss wins PCL batting title

Outfielder Nick Buss became the first player in Chihuahuas history to win the Pacific Coast League batting title, the league announced Monday.

Buss hit .348 this season for the Chihuahuas, .003 points better than Ivan De Jesus Jr. of Colorado Springs.

He tallied 123 total hits in 114 games. Of those 123 hits, 38 went for extra bases. He also added 55 RBI and scored 53 runs for the Dogs.

Buss was the lone member of the team to make this year’s mid-season all-star game.

The Chihuahuas are the fifth PCL team Buss has played for in the past five seasons. The Michigan native is hitting .307 in that span.

Buss helped lead the Chihuahuas to their third consecutive PCL playoff appearance after clinching a division title.

The Chihuahuas will begin their playoff run on Wednesday at Reno in a best-of-five series. Games one and two will be played in Reno with the final three games taking place in El Paso.
