Memphis Redbirds hit walk-off HR to take 2-0 series lead on Chihuahuas

Jose Adolis Garcia hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th Thursday afternoon to give the Memphis Redbirds a 2-0 victory and a 2-0 series lead over the Chihuahuas in the PCL Finals.

The Chihuahuas struggled to make contact against Kevin Herget, who tallied 15 strikeouts in eight innings of work for Memphis.

In total, the Redbirds’ pitching staff recorded 20 strikeouts in the game and only surrendered six hits in 11 innings.

Memphis stranded 14 runners on base, but was still able to pull out a win in game two to take the commanding 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five series.

No team has overcome an 0-2 hole in the league championship series since Tucson beat Calgary in the final three games in 1991.

Luckily for the Chihuahuas, the final three games will all be in El Paso, starting with game three Friday night at 7:05 p.m.

Games four and five, if necessary, are currently scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 6:05 p.m Sunday, respectively.

With the win in extras, Memphis improved to 13-0 in extra-innings games this season. The Chihuahuas fell to 7-8 in extra-inning contests.
