El Paso man arrested in Sunland Park charged with 8th DWI

An El Paso man accused of driving drunk in Sunland Park had previously been arrested seven times for DWI in Texas, ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom has confirmed.

A New Mexico State Police officer stopped Alfonso Ingo, 60, shortly before 10 pm on September 17, 2017.

The officer noticed Ingo, pulled over for a traffic violation, had bloodshot eyes and detected a strong odor of alcohol, state police said.

Ingo allegedly had slurred speech, appeared to be confused about his location and admitted to drinking prior to driving, police added.

Ingo allegedly failed standardized field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for DWI.

Police said Ingo refused to have his breath measured at the time of the arrest. After a search warrant was approved by the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Ingo was transported to a local hospital where his blood was drawn for laboratory testing.

After discovering Ingo had seven prior DWI arrests, the officer charged Ingo with DWI (8th offense) and booked him into the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
