UTEP Miners fall to Army 35-21

The troubles continue for the UTEP Miners.

Saturday afternoon, in West Point, NY, UTEP dropped its 5th straight game of the season to the Army Black Knights by a final of 35-21.

UTEP is now 0-5.

It was a closer contest than last year’s blowout loss at the Sun Bowl when the Black Knights beat the Miners 66-14.

This year, the Miners kept the game close, but then it got away from them.

UTEP got on the board first with a one-yard touchdown run from running back Quardraiz Wadley.

Wadley was one of the bright spots for the Miners.

He rushed for 156 yards on the day and the one touchdown.

The Black Knights would respond in the 2nd quarter with a 32 yard touchdown run by Andy Davidson to tie the game at 7.

Army added another touchdown in the 2nd with a 19 yard touchdown run by Calen Holt.

In the first half, UTEP quarterback Ryan Metz had to leave the game with a shoulder injury and backup quarterback Zach Greenlee would take over.

Greenlee would get his only touchdown pass of the game in the 2nd quarter when he connected with tight end David Lucero in the endzone for a 2 yard touchdown pass.

The Miners would go into halftime tied with the Black Knights at 14.

Army took over the game in the second half.

The Black Knights scored 2 touchdowns in the third quarter and added another one in the 4th quarter.

The Miners just couldn’t keep pace.

The offense sputtered and the only touchdown of the half for the Miners came on a Kahani Smith interception that Smith returned for a touchdown.

The search for UTEP’s first win of the season will continue next weekend.

UTEP will get back to Conference USA play when they host Western Kentucky Saturday night at the Sun Bowl.
