Police identify teen killed in Lower Valley shooting
El Paso police has identified the victim of a deadly shooting in the Lower Valley Wednesday night.
Police said 17-year-old Juan Manuel Cervantes was shot in the torso. He was taken to the hospital where he died. Officers are still searching for the shooter.
The shooting happened 9:15 p.m. on the 8400 block of Hughes Circle, investigators said.
When officers arrived, they found the victim lying on the street.
The Ysleta school district emailed ABC-7 the following statement: “It is with deep sadness that we confirm that Ysleta High School student Juan Manuel Cervantes passed away this morning. The Ysleta Independent School District Board of Trustees, administration, and staff send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to his family and the Ysleta High School community. Grief counselors are onsite at Ysleta High School to help students and staff as needed.”
Police said this is the 16th murder of 2017 in El Paso.
