Men’s Hoops: UTEP beats New Mexico to snap six-game losing streak
The UTEP men’s basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak Saturday at home with a win over New Mexico, 88-76.
Omega Harris led the Miners with 28 points and connected on all four of his three-point attempts.
Keith Frazier added 16 points and seven rebounds to give the Miners their first win since beating Louisiana College in the team’s season-opener.
The Miners jumped out to a 45-31 lead at the half and never looked back. UTEP shot nearly 54-percent from the field as a team while also holding UNM to just under 38-percent shooting.
UTEP moved to 2-6 on the year with the win, while the Lobos fell to 3-5.
Saturday’s game marked the first time since 2008 that UTEP hosted UNM at the Don Haskins Center.
UNM has now lost five of its last six games under Paul Weir, who was the head coach at New Mexico State for one season before becoming the head coach of the Lobos in April of this year.
The Miners will next play Washington State at the Don Haskins Center on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Washington State suffered its first loss of the season Saturday against UC Davis, falling to 6-1 on the season.
