110 pounds of pot seized at Bridge of the Americas

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized 110 pounds of marijuana Wednesday at the Bridge of the Americas international crossing.

The first seizure occurred when border officials stopped a 42-year-old Mexican woman allegedly transporting 66 pounds of marijuana located in multiple areas of a 2011 Ford Focus, including the bumpers, seats, dashboard and spare tire. CBP officials said 59 marijuana-filled packages were found in the car.

The second seizure occurred later that day when border officials took into custody an 18-year-old Mexican man who was allegedly transporting 44 pounds of marijuana.

Both suspects were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents to face charges associated with the failed drug smuggling attempt.

In the past two days, border officials also seized a 31-pound marijuana load and a 2.1-pound methamphetamine shipment.

Border agriculture specialists also seized $2,6000 worth of prohibited agriculture items in the past two days.
