FBI investigates 21 bank robberies since 2015
El Paso police are still searching for the person who robbed a west El Paso credit union Thursday.
The man was captured on film wearing all black with what looks like a white medical mask.
Police say he approached a teller and demanded money.
During the brief interaction the man reportedly became frustrated and took off – without the cash.
It marked the first bank robbery of the year.
Last year, police arrested 34-year-old Ever Johnson, who’s suspected of five bank robberies including two dating back to 2016.
He was previously convicted of bank robbery in 2010, and sentenced to almost six years in prison.
He is still in custody awaiting trial on the current charges.
There are still several cases under investigation.
In 2015 the FBI investigated three El Paso County bank robberies.
That number jumped to 11 in 2016 and in 2017 there are currently 7 bank robberies under investigation.
“Although, the FBI has historically had a primary role in bank robbery investigations, today the FBI, while continuing to provide assistance to our state and local partners investigating bank robberies, focuses its investigative resources on those suspects who post the greatest safety threats to the public,” said Jeanette Harpers, an FBI spokeswoman.
El Paso police are actively investigating a money center that was robbed in northeast El Paso early last year and Thursday’s bank robbery at Evolve Federal Credit Union in west El Paso.
