Funeral services for Montwood student killed in fiery crash planned Tuesday
Funeral services for one of the three Montwood High School students killed in a December crash are scheduled Tuesday.
A visitation for Isaiah Bernal is planned at St Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church,122000 Vista del Sol, from 6 to 9 p.m.; the rosary will start at 7 p.m.
His funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the same church.
The fiery wreck that killed Isaiah and two others happened on Dec. 29, 2017, on the 13100 block of Jobe Road, a private road in far east El Paso County, near Windmere Avenue and Cherrington Street.
A spokeswoman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said the vehicle was heading east when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll and burst into flames.
Four people were in the vehicle. Three were pronounced dead at the scene.
At a memorial, family and friends identified the four teenagers to ABC-7 as Javier Mendoza, the car owner, Isaiah Bernal, Roberto Gallegos, and Jessie Montoya, who was taken to the hospital.
Hector Bernal said he didn’t know his son Isaiah died until a family member told him about a crash involving Montwood students the night it happened.
“We still didn’t know about our son because he hadn’t come back home,” said Bernal. “He was in the accident and he died as well as two others.”
County officials have warned the public against driving on Jobe Road as it has been the site of several fatal wrecks.
Since 2014, ABC-7 has reported on eight deaths that happened on the private road.
