NMSU’s Jones, Salas win WAC Player of the Week honors

NMSU’s Jemerrio Jones and Brooke Salas won WAC Play of the Week honors after big performances against Chicago State over the weekend.

Jones scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help guide the men’s team to a 37-point win over Chicago State in the team’s WAC opener on the road.

Jones ranks seventh in the nation in total rebounds despite only being 6’5″. He has now recorded double digits in rebounds in 12 of NMSU’s 16 games this season.

Meanwhile, Salas tallied 33 points and 13 rebounds to guide the NMSU women’s team to a 1-0 start in conference play after they also defeated Chicago State.

Salas also surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career, becoming the 23rd Aggie to do so.

She scored 23 points in an eight-minute span against Chicago State to break the game open for the Aggies.

Both teams will continue WAC play against Grand Canyon on Thursday with the women playing at home and the men hitting the road.
