Sheriffs arrest Vado man for allegedly stealing rental truck from former employer
Deputies arrested a Vado man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing a Penske rental truck rented by his former boss.
Arnulfo Carrera-Ponce, 27, allegedly claimed that a local janitorial services company owed him $3,500 for unpaid traffic tickets he reportedly received while he was working there. According to court documents, Carrera-Ponce quit his job on December 30 and threatened the company by keeping the Penske truck, which was rented by his boss.
Carrera-Ponce allegedly stole a trailer that was attached to the truck and was carrying a commercial-grade carpet cleaner worth $40,000.
Sheriffs said the suspect was arrested after detectives tracked the truck and trailer to a residence in the 100 block of Flower road. He was transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of embezzlement, extortion and fraudulent use of a credit card. He was released Friday after posting a $10,000 bond.
Deputies said Carrera-Ponce also refused to return a company-issued cell phone and two company credit cards, one of which was allegedly used the same day he was arrested at a Vado gas station.
