$100 million face-lift planned for El Paso International

The El Paso International Airport is getting ready for a $100-million facelift.

The improvements will be made over the next five years and the funding will come from various sources, including Federal Aviation Administration grants, passenger facility charge fees, bonds and the Airport Enterprise Fund.

Tuesday, El Paso City Council and the mayor got an update on all the projects that will be happening over the next five years and approved the plan.

Passengers can expect to see a new rental car agency administration building, runway improvements and upgrades to the passenger notification system.

There will also be airport landscape improvements and a consolidated baggage inspection system.

During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, City Representative Claudia Ordaz pointed out other recently-completed improvements. “The kids’ lounge – I have heard nothing but good things about it. It’s a great creative space for families while they wait for their flights,” Ordaz said, “In addition to the nursing lounges and the animal relief station, it’s a great reflection to residents and visitors that our city is a family-friendly city.”

Improvements to the airport’s security cameras and fire safety equipment are also planned.
